Section 5-1201 - Effect of Failure to Designate Successor Candidate and File Certificate

(a) (1) Except as otherwise specifically provided in this title, if either nominee of a Governor and Lieutenant Governor unit dies, declines the nomination, or is disqualified, the remaining nominee shall cease to be a candidate if: (i) a successor nominee is not designated or selected under this subtitle; and (ii) the certificate of designation and certificate of candidacy required under this subtitle are not filed in a timely manner. (2) If a successor nominee for Governor or Lieutenant Governor is not designated or selected as required under this subtitle, the name of the remaining nominee may not appear on the ballot. (b) If an individual designated as a successor nominee for an office other than Governor or Lieutenant Governor does not file the certificate of candidacy required under this subtitle or otherwise fails to comply with the requirements of this title, the name of that individual may not appear on the ballot.
