Section 10-603 - Limitations on Admissions -- Geriatric Evaluations

(a) This section does not apply to an individual who is: (1) Transferred from a facility of another state to a State facility under the Interstate Compact on Mental Health; or (2) Admitted after an emergency evaluation under Part IV of this subtitle. (b) In addition to the other requirements of this subtitle, a State facility or a Veterans’ Administration hospital may admit an individual who is 65 years old or older only if a geriatric evaluation team determines that there is no available, less restrictive form of care or treatment that is adequate for the needs of the individual. (c) (1) Each geriatric evaluation shall be done by the geriatric evaluation team of a county health department. (2) Each geriatric evaluation team consists of the individuals whom the Secretary designates from multiple disciplines.
