(a) An elevator unit may not be operated in a building, structure, or place of employment in the State unless a certificate is issued by the Commissioner. (b) Notwithstanding subsection (a) of this section, the Commissioner shall accept certificates of inspection from a political subdivision or municipal corporation instead of the certificate required by subsection (a) of this section.
