The board of registration in optometry shall administer an examination designed to measure the qualifications necessary to safely utilize the ophthalmic application of therapeutic pharmaceutical agents in section 66B. Such examination shall be held in conjunction with the examination provided in sections 68 and 68A and shall include any portion of the examination administered by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry or other appropriate examination covering the subject matter of therapeutic pharmaceutical agents.\nSuch examination shall, upon application, be open to any optometrist registered under the provisions of this chapter and to any person who meets the qualifications for examination under the provisions of section 68 or section 68A; provided, however, that each such applicant shall furnish to the board evidence of the satisfactory completion of 90 hours of didactic instruction and 30 hours of supervised clinical education relating to the use of therapeutic pharmaceutical agents by a duly accredited medical school or college of optometry and otherwise meeting the guidelines and requirements of the board of registration.
