The notice shall be served by an officer qualified to serve civil process by delivering an attested copy thereof to each proprietor, or by leaving such copy at his last and usual place of abode, not less than seven nor more than thirty days before the day appointed for the meeting, and such officer's return, specifying the persons on whom he has served the notice and the time and manner of the service on each, shall be sufficient evidence thereof.
