3.1042 Appointment of representative by governor; qualifications; 'armed forces of the United States' defined.Sec. 2. (1) Subject to subsection (2), the governor shall appoint this state's representative to the interstate commission on educational opportunity for military children created in section 1. (2) The governor shall appoint as this state's representative under subsection (1) a person who meets all of the following or a person who meets subdivisions (a) and (b) and is the spouse or child of a person who meets subdivisions (c) and (d): (a) Is a resident of this state. (b) Is a person of good moral character. (c) Has been honorably discharged from the armed forces of the United States after at least 15 years of active duty service. (d) While engaged in active duty service in the armed forces of the United States, had at least 1 minor child enrolled in elementary or secondary school. (3) As used in this section, 'armed forces of the United States' means the armed forces of the United States and their reserve components and the United States coast guard.
