§ 380.1152

380.1152 'Bilingual instruction,''children of limited English-speaking ability,' and 'in-service training' defined. Sec. 1152. As used in sections 1152 to 1158: (a) 'Bilingual instruction' means the use of 2 languages, 1 of which is English, as media of instruction for speaking, reading, writing, or comprehension. 'Bilingual instruction' may include instruction in the history and culture of the country, territory, or geographic area associated with the language spoken by children of limited English-speaking ability who are enrolled in the program and in the history and culture of the United States. (b) 'Children of limited English-speaking ability' means children who have or reasonably may be expected to have difficulty performing ordinary classwork in English because their native tongue is a language other than English or because they come from a home or environment where the primary language used is a language other than English. (c) 'In-service training' means short-term or part-time training for administrators, teachers, teacher aides, paraprofessionals, or other education personnel engaged in bilingual instruction programs for children of limited English-speaking ability.
