500.1005 Insurer; annual audit; filing date; extensions; designation of audit committee.Sec. 1005. (1) Each insurer authorized to do business in this state shall have an annual audit by an independent public accountant and shall file an audited financial report with the commissioner on or before June 1 for the immediately preceding calendar year. With 90 days' advance notice to the insurer, the commissioner may require an insurer to file an audited financial report earlier than June 1. (2) Extensions of the June 1 filing date under subsection (1) may be granted by the commissioner for 30-day periods upon a showing by the insurer and its independent public accountant of the reasons for requesting the extension and upon a determination by the commissioner of good cause for an extension. The extension request shall be submitted in writing not less than 10 days prior to the due date and in sufficient detail to permit the commissioner to make an informed decision on the requested extension.
