Sec. 8197. (1) A person, officer, member, or examining physician of any society authorized to do business under this chapter, who knowingly or willfully makes a false or fraudulent statement or representation in or with reference to an application for membership, or for the purpose of obtaining money from or benefit in any society transacting business under this chapter, is guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction shall be punished by imprisonment for not less than 30 days or more than 1 year, or by a fine of not less than $100.00 or more than $500.00, or both. (2) A person who willfully makes a false statement of a material fact or thing in a sworn statement as to the death or disability of a certificate holder in a society for the purpose of procuring payment of a benefit named in the certificate of the holder, and a person who willfully makes a false statement in a verified report or declaration under oath required or authorized
