51.82 Sheriff; services to state; payment. Sec. 82. If a sheriff is required, by any statutory provision, to perform any service, in behalf of the people of this state and for their benefit, that is not chargeable by law to his or her county, or to some officer or other person, his or her account for such services shall be audited by the state treasurer and paid out of the state treasury.
