144.561 DESCRIPTION OF CERTAIN MEDICAL FACILITIES. Subdivision 1. Definitions. For purposes of this section, the following words have the meanings given to them: (a) 'Person' means an individual, partnership, association, corporation, state, county or local governmental unit or a division, department, board or agency of a governmental unit. (b) 'Medical facility' means an institution, office, clinic, or building, not attached to a licensed hospital, where medical services for the diagnosis or treatment of illness or injury or the maintenance of health are offered in an outpatient or ambulatory setting. Subd. 2. Prohibition. No person shall use the words 'emergency,' 'emergent,' 'trauma,' 'critical,' or any form of these words which suggest, offer, or imply the availability of immediate care for any medical condition likely to cause death, disability or serious illness in the name of any medical facilities, or in advertising, publications or signs identifying the medical facility unless the facility is licensed under the provisions of section 144.50.
