Section 35-3-24 - War veterans memorial commission; membership; appointment; term of office; filling of vacancies; legislators and state personnel ineligible

There is hereby created a war veterans memorial commission, which is hereby charged with the duty of carrying out the provisions as hereinafter set forth, and it shall be referred to in the succeeding sections hereof as the 'commission.' The commission shall consist of seven (7) commissioners, one (1) member each from the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, American Ex-Prisoners, of War, Veterans of World War I, Sons of Confederate Veterans, and the Mississippi National Guard. The commissioners shall be appointed by the governor on the recommendation of the state executive governing body of each respective organization entitled to a member of the commission. The initial terms of the members shall be as follows, to be designated by the governor at the time of appointment: (a) two (2) members shall be appointed for terms of two (2) years each; (b) two (2) members for terms of four (4) years each; (c) two (2) members for terms of six (6) years each; and (d) the member from the American Ex-Prisoners of War for a term of four (4) years. Thereafter, each term shall be for six (6) years or until a successor in office has been appointed and
