For the purpose of promoting higher standards of scholarship, a greater degree of culture, closer social fellowship and a stronger college spirit among the students of the state universities and colleges, any group of students in such institutions shall be permitted to organize themselves into such societies as academic, professional, honorary, Masonic, or so-called Greek letter fraternities or sororities, or similar organizations whether of a local or connectional character as provided in this chapter.Codes, 1930, § 7309; 1942, § 6792; Laws, 1926, ch. 312.
