Section 37-23-177 - General powers and duties of board of education

The board shall have the following powers, duties and responsibilities:(a) To promulgate and enforce rules, regulations and guidelines to implement the provisions of Sections 37-23-171 through 37-23-181;(b) To provide technical assistance to local school district personnel in the development, implementation, evaluation and modification of gifted education programs for gifted children;(c) To review and approve or deny all local school district gifted education programs, or changes therein, submitted pursuant to Sections 37-23-171 through 37-23-181;(d) To accept and distribute federal funds or funds made available from other sources;(e) To develop certification requirements for all teaching or nonteaching personnel employed in gifted education programs;(f) To develop staff development programs for personnel employed in gifted education programs;(g) To collect such data from all local school districts as may be required to implement Sections 37-23-171 through 37-23-181;(h) To disseminate information on quality gifted education programs; and(i) To withhold funds from any school district which refuses or fails to comply with the provisions of Sections 37-23-171 through 37-23-181.Laws,
