Section 59-1-11 - Additional powers of port commission

In addition to the power and authority conferred in Section 59-1-1, the port commission and mayor and board of commissioners of the port of entry, acting jointly only, may in their discretion negotiate a contract or contracts for any and all repairs or any part thereof affecting the reconstruction, repair or maintenance of any pier, dock, warehouse, grain elevator, bulk loading plant, sheds or any other property at the port of entry under the jurisdiction of said port commission and city, under terms and conditions as both bodies may deem best and economical to the city wherein the port of entry is located.The port commission is given full power and authority to employ engineers, attorneys and other professional and technical help in or about the operation, development and advancement of said port, and to pay reasonable compensation therefor.
