Section 69-1-49 - Studies concerning commodity exchange entity, Farm Assistance in Rural Mississippi (FARM)

(1) The Department of Agriculture and Commerce and the Mississippi Cooperative Extension Service shall study the merits of establishing a commodity exchange entity whose purpose shall be to coordinate and enhance the marketing of Mississippi crops, poultry and livestock in national and international markets. Such entity would have the authority to consign and broker such crops, poultry and livestock. A report of the study shall be submitted on or before August 1, 1987, to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor and the Legislature.(2) The Department of Agriculture and Commerce and the Mississippi Cooperative Extension Service shall evaluate the merits of creating a Farm Assistance in Rural Mississippi (FARM) Program, which shall have as its primary features a price enhancement program and a debt reduction assistance program for crop producers. A report on this program shall be submitted on or before September 1, 1987, to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor and the Legislature.(3) The Department of Agriculture and Commerce shall request the Agri-Marketing Service, marketing affiliate branch of the United States Department of Agriculture to conduct a feasibility study on marketing outlets.
