The governor shall have power to direct and control the examiner and, when he deems it necessary, may require him to examine the accounts of any state or county officer charged with the duty of collecting or disbursing any part of the public revenue. He shall fix compensation at not exceeding seven dollars a day while actually employed, the examiner to pay his own expenses; and the governor shall prescribe the time for which he shall be employed.Codes, 1892, § 2172; 1906, § 2389; Hemingway's 1917, § 4781; 1930, § 4835; 1942, § 3993.
