Section 83-5-203 - Definitions

The following terms as used in Sections 83-5-201 through 83-5-217 shall have the respective meanings hereinafter set forth:(a) 'Commissioner' means the Commissioner of Insurance.(b) 'Company' means any person engaging in or proposing or attempting to engage in any transaction or kind of insurance or surety business, and any person or group of persons who may otherwise be subject to the administrative, regulatory or taxing authority of the commissioner.(c) 'Department' means the Department of Insurance.(d) 'Examiner' means any individual or firm having been authorized by the commissioner to conduct an examination under Sections 83-5-201 through 83-5-217.(e) 'Insurer' means an insurer as the term is used in Section 83-5-1.(f) 'Person' means any individual, aggregation of individuals, trust, association, partnership or corporation, or any affiliate thereof.Laws, 1992, ch. 319, § 2, eff. 7/1/1992.
