Section 99-38-3 - Definitions

As used in this chapter the following terms shall have the meanings herein ascribed:(a) 'Accused' shall mean any person who has been indicted for a criminal offense or against whom a criminal prosecution has been commenced;(b) 'Treasurer' shall mean the State Treasurer of the State of Mississippi; and(c) 'Victim' shall mean any person who suffers damages as a result of another person's criminal activities. The term 'victim' shall not include any coparticipant in the criminal activities of an accused or convicted person, or any person knowingly participating in a criminal act at the time he became a victim.Laws, 1987, ch. 468, § 2; Laws, 1992, ch. 422, § 2, eff. 5/4/1992.
