Title XL ADDITIONAL EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENTS Chapter 630 • Effective - 28 Aug 1980 630.198. Duties of research review committee. — 1. After a project has been approved by the professional review committee, the research review committees shall determine that the persons selected to participate in biomedical or pharmacological research or their parents or guardians have given informed consent as to whether or not they wish to participate. Before any person participates in such research, the committees shall screen the research and recommend approval or disapproval to the director. The decision of the director shall be final. 2. The committees shall assure that the following criteria are met in giving informed consent: (1) The person has the capacity to understand the risks, benefits and procedures with respect to the project he or she is asked to engage in; (2) The person has been given sufficient information to understand the risks, benefits and procedures; and (3) The person is acting of his own free volition without coercive influence. 3. Persons may decide not to participate or may withdraw from the research at any time for any reasons. 4.
