Escape from commitment, detention, or conditional release — penalty. — 1. A person commits the offense of escape from commitment, detention, or conditional release if he or she has been committed to a state mental hospital under the provisions of chapter 552 or sections 632.480 to 632.513, or has been ordered to be taken into custody, detained, or held pursuant to sections 632.480 to 632.513, or as provided by section 632.475, has been committed to the department of mental health as a criminal sexual psychopath under statutes in effect before August 13, 1980, or has been granted a conditional release under the provisions of chapter 552 or sections 632.480 to 632.513, and he or she escapes from such commitment, detention, or conditional release. 2.
