53-1-201. Purpose of department of corrections. The department of corrections shall use at maximum efficiency the resources of state government in a coordinated effort to: (1) develop and maintain comprehensive services and programs in the field of adult and youth corrections; (2) provide for the custody, assessment, care, supervision, treatment, education, rehabilitation, and work and skill development of formerly adjudicated delinquent youth who are referred or committed to the department; and (3) minimize recidivism among offenders during and after their participation in the department's programs and monitor the rate of recidivism to determine the success of efforts to reduce recidivism.
