61-3-603. Penalty for alteration or forgery of certificate of ownership or certificate of title -- assignment. A person who alters or forges or causes to be altered or forged any motor vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, or pole trailer certificate of ownership or certificate of title or any assignment of a certificate of ownership or certificate of title or who holds or uses any certificate or assignment knowing that the certificate has been altered or forged is guilty of a felony. Upon a conviction of a violation of this section, the offender is subject to a fine of not more than $5,000, to imprisonment for a period of not more than 10 years, or both. History: En.
