81-2-708. Penalty. (1) Except as provided in subsection (2), a person convicted of violating this part shall be fined not more than $500, be imprisoned in the county jail for a term not to exceed 6 months, or both. (2) A person convicted of violating this part by importing livestock into the state without a required health certificate, permit, or other documentation authorized by department rule shall be fined not less than $500 per animal or $5,000, whichever is greater.
