A mine-site location permit shall authorize the applicant to engage in preparatory work upon the area described in the application and designated in the permit for a period of 1 year from the date of issuance and is renewable until the applicant has applied for and received a strip-mining or underground-mining permit in accordance with part 2 of this chapter.
