1. The Attorney General shall appoint the Consumer’s Advocate for a term of 4 years. The Consumer’s Advocate is in the unclassified service of the State. The person appointed: (a) Must be knowledgeable in the various areas of the regulation of public utilities; (b) Must be independent of and have no pecuniary interest in any utility or industry regulated by the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada; (c) Except as otherwise provided in NRS 284.143, shall devote all of his or her time to the business of his or her office and shall not pursue any other business or vocation or hold any other office of profit; and (d) Must not be a member of any political convention or a member of any committee of any political party. 2. The Attorney General may remove the Consumer’s Advocate from office for inefficiency, neglect of duty or malfeasance in office. (Added to NRS by 1981, 1674; A 1987, 704; 1997, 616)
