1. A custodian of records may remove books of records, maps, charts, surveys and other papers for storage in an appropriate facility if the custodian believes that the removal of such records is necessary for their protection or permanent preservation, or the custodian may arrange for their transfer to another location for duplication or reproduction. 2. If a county recorder receives a request for a particular item which has been stored pursuant to subsection 1, the county recorder shall produce a microfilmed copy of such item or the original within 3 working days.
