1. The spouse of a deceased member is entitled to receive a cumulative benefit of at least $450 per month. The payments must begin on the first day of the month immediately following the death of the member and must cease on the last day of the month in which the spouse dies. If payments cease before the total amount of contributions made by the deceased member have been received by the spouse, the surplus of contributions over payments received must be paid to the spouse. 2.
