1. The district attorney is responsible for establishing paternity and securing support pursuant to this chapter in cases referred by the Division. 2. The Attorney General may assist any district attorney upon request. 3. If a district attorney fails or refuses to perform this duty in a particular case in which assistance is granted, or in which the establishment of paternity or enforcement of support is required, the Attorney General may undertake to perform this duty and may exercise in connection therewith all powers of the district attorney provided by law.
