1. The Commission may appoint a subcommittee or an advisory committee composed of members who have experience and knowledge of matters relating to persons with mental illness, persons with intellectual disabilities, persons with developmental disabilities, persons with substance use disorders or persons with co-occurring disorders and who, to the extent practicable, represent the ethnic and geographic diversity of this State. 2. A subcommittee or advisory committee appointed pursuant to this section shall consider specific issues and advise the Commission on matters related to the duties of the Commission. 3. The members of a subcommittee or advisory committee appointed pursuant to this section serve at the pleasure of the Commission. The members serve without compensation, except that each member is entitled, while engaged in the business of the subcommittee or advisory committee, to the per diem allowance and travel expenses provided for state officers and employees generally if funding is available for this purpose.
