1. Except as otherwise provided in subsection 3, the Department shall not register a motor vehicle if a local authority has filed with the Department a notice stating that the owner of the motor vehicle: (a) Was cited by a constable pursuant to subsection 6 of NRS 258.070 for failure to comply with the provisions of NRS 482.385; and (b) After the imposition of punishment pursuant to NRS 482.385, has failed to pay the fee charged by the constable pursuant to subsection 6 of NRS 258.070. 2. The Department shall, upon request, furnish to the owner of the motor vehicle a copy of the notice of nonpayment described in subsection 1. 3. The Department may register a motor vehicle for which the Department has received a notice of nonpayment described in subsection 1 if: (a) The Department receives: (1) A receipt from the owner of the motor vehicle which indicates that the owner has paid the fee charged by the constable; or (2) Notification from the applicable local authority that the owner of the motor vehicle has paid the fee charged by the constable; and (b) The owner of the motor vehicle otherwise complies with the requirements of this chapter for the registration of the motor vehicle.
