1. The following persons are exempt from the provisions of this chapter which require licensure: (a) Any subordinate of a professional engineer of this State if he or she acts as a subordinate. (b) Officers and employees of the United States Government who have qualified pursuant to federal regulations and have been authorized to do engineering for the Federal Government, but no such governmental officer or employee may engage in the private practice of engineering in Nevada unless licensed pursuant to the provisions of this chapter. 2. The licensure requirements of this chapter do not apply to: (a) The employees of interstate or intrastate public utility companies while they are engaged in any type of work for those companies, except work of a type prescribed pursuant to NRS 703.1543; (b) Any architect registered pursuant to the provisions of chapter 623 of NRS and who practices architecture as permitted by chapter 623 of NRS; or (c) A person, while using a scanner for the purpose of construction management or monitoring, or both, if the person is certified by the International Conference of Building Officials or a successor organization for the purposes for which he or she is of construction management or monitoring, or both, if the person is certified by the International Conference of Building Officials or a successor organization for the purposes for which he or she is using the scanner. 3. As used in this section, 'scanner' means a device that uses laser technology to capture the digital shape of physical objects through laser triangulation.
