1. Upon diagnosing a patient as having an opioid use disorder, a physician or physician assistant shall counsel and provide information to the patient concerning evidence-based treatment for opioid use disorders, including, without limitation, medication-assisted treatment. 2. If the patient requests medication-assisted treatment, the physician or physician assistant shall: (a) If the physician or physician assistant is authorized under federal and state law to issue such a prescription, offer to prescribe an appropriate medication; or (b) If the physician or physician assistant is not authorized under federal and state law to prescribe an appropriate medication, refer the patient to a physician, osteopathic physician, physician assistant licensed pursuant to this chapter or chapter 633 of NRS, advanced practice registered nurse or pharmacist who is authorized to issue the prescription. 3. As used in this section, 'medication-assisted treatment' has the meaning ascribed to it in NRS 639.28079. (Added to NRS by 2023, 2366)
