Statute 631 2851

1. A dentist who holds a special endorsement issued pursuant to NRS 631.285 and who administers immunizations or under whose authorization a dental hygienist or dental therapist who holds such an endorsement administers immunizations must: (a) Issue or obtain from a dentist, physician, physician assistant or advanced practice registered nurse a standing order for the administration of the immunizations that is approved by the Division of Public and Behavioral Health of the Department of Health and Human Services; (b) Establish written policies and procedures for the handling and disposal of used or contaminated equipment; and (c) Establish a written plan for addressing emergencies and ensure that the dentist, dental hygienist or dental therapist administering immunizations has immediate access to equipment that may be needed in an emergency, including, without limitation, equipment for administering oxygen and epinephrine and other equipment necessary to respond to an allergic reaction. 2. A dentist who holds a special endorsement issued pursuant to NRS 631.285 and who administers an immunization or under whose authorization a dental hygienist or dental therapist who holds such an endorsement administers an immunization shall report any severe reaction to the immunization as required by any applicable regulations adopted by the State Board of Health. 3. A dentist, dental hygienist or dental therapist who holds a special endorsement issued pursuant to NRS 631.285 shall comply with: (a) The instructions for storing and handling an immunization prescribed by the manufacturer; and (b) To the extent that such guidelines do not conflict with the instructions of the manufacturer, any applicable guidelines issued by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, including, without limitation, guidelines for storing, handling and administering immunizations, guidelines for documenting the administration of an immunization and contraindications and precautions for immunizations.
