1. The operation of an institutional pharmacy must meet the following requirements: (a) In a hospital with 100 or more beds, the pharmacy must be under the continuous supervision of a pharmacist during the time it is open for pharmaceutical services. (b) In a hospital with less than 100 beds, the services of a pharmacist may be on less than a full-time basis, depending upon the needs of the institution, and pursuant to the regulations and recommendations of the State Board of Pharmacy and the person charged with the administration and control of the institution. (c) In the absence of a pharmacist from the pharmacy, a nurse or practitioner designated by the pharmacist may obtain from the pharmacy such necessary quantities of drugs to administer to a patient until the pharmacy reopens as are ordered by a medical practitioner and needed by a patient in an emergency. 2. The pharmacist in charge of the institutional pharmacy shall initiate procedures to provide for administration and technical guidance in all matters pertaining to the acquiring, stocking, recordkeeping and dispensing of drugs and devices.
