41:55 Town Treasurer. – If any person holding the office of town treasurer shall, by reason of illness, accident, absence from the state or other cause, become temporarily incapacitated and unable to perform the duties of his office, the selectmen may, unless the town has voted to adopt the provisions of RSA 41:29-a, declare a temporary vacancy and appoint an acting town treasurer to perform the duties of the office for a limited period of time, and fix his compensation and the amount of his bond.
