193-E:3-a Definitions. – In this section: I. 'Commissioner' means the commissioner of the department of education. II. 'Department' means the department of education. II-a. 'Genocide' means any of the following acts committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group: killing members of the group; causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; or forcibly transferring children of the group to another group. II-b. 'Holocaust' means the systematic, bureaucratic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of approximately 6,000,000 Jews by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. II-c. 'Holocaust and genocide education' means studies on the Holocaust, genocide, and other acts of mass violence. III.
