261:53 Application of Minors. – I. The application of any person under the age of 18 years to register a vehicle shall be signed by the father, mother or guardian, or in the event there is no parent or guardian, then by another responsible adult. This paragraph shall not apply to a person under the age of 18 years who is emancipated by marriage or who has presented proof of insurance coverage at the time of application. II. Any person who has signed the application of a minor for registration may thereafter file a written request that the registration be cancelled and the department shall cancel the registration. III. Upon receipt of satisfactory evidence of the death of the person who signed the application of a minor for registration, the division may suspend such registration and, upon suspension, shall not issue a new registration until such time as a new application, duly signed and verified, is made as required by this section.
