The Governor shall be authorized to remove the Chief State Medical Examiner from office, and the Chief State Medical Examiner shall be authorized to remove any county or intercounty medical examiner from office, for any of the following causes: a. engaging in illegal activity; b. intentional substantive noncompliance with rules and regulations; c. willful misconduct; d. professional incompetence and neglect of duty; e. insubordination; or f. excessive inefficiency in the performance of his duties.
