37:1-15. Solemnizing without presentation of license; disorderly persons offense. Any person, not authorized by R.S.37:1-13 to solemnize marriages or civil unions, who solemnizes a marriage or civil union or any person or religious society, institution or organization, authorized to solemnize marriages or civil unions, who solemnizes a marriage or civil union without the presentation of a license therefor, obtained in accordance with the provisions of article two of this chapter (R.S.37:1-2 et seq.), shall be guilty of a disorderly persons offense, and punished by a fine not exceeding five hundred dollars ($500.00), or imprisonment not exceeding six months, or both.
