Section 18-2-11 - Grade I certificate

A. A grade I librarian's certificate shall be issued to an applicant without examination when: (1) the applicant meets the minimum educational requirements established by the rules and regulations of the state librarian, which shall require completion of a minimum number of years of undergraduate work plus a minimum number of semester hours of library science courses in an institution accredited by its state department of education or a regional accrediting agency; and (2) the applicant demonstrates ability to perform the duties of a grade I librarian ably and efficiently. B. A grade I librarian's certificate shall be issued by examination to an applicant who lacks the minimum educational requirements for a grade I certificate, and who: (1) demonstrates ability to perform the duties of a grade I librarian ably and efficiently; and (2) successfully passes the examination given by the state librarian for a grade I certificate.
