A. Every person who assists or is assisted by one or more other persons to commit a battery upon any peace officer while he is in the lawful discharge of his duties is guilty of a fourth degree felony. B. This section is designed to protect officers from assaults and batteries by multiple assailants while quelling riots and other unlawful assemblages.
