Ask AI about this
The department, upon receiving application for original registration of a vehicle or a certificate of title, except a title issued on a manufactured home, shall first check the engine or other standard identification number provided by the manufacturer of the vehicle shown in the application against its own records, the records of the national crime information center and other records as appropriate. History: 1953 Comp., § 64-3-8, enacted by Laws 1978, ch. 35, § 28; 1995, ch. 135, § 9; 2004, ch. 59, § 6. ANNOTATIONSThe 2004 amendment, effective March 4, 2004, added 'except a title issued on a manufactured home' after 'certificate of title'. The 1995 amendment, effective June 16, 1995, substituted 'department' for 'division' at the beginning, substituted the language beginning 'its own records' at the end for references to two indexes required by the Motor Vehicle Code, and made a minor stylistic change.
