The county agents to be appointed in pursuance of this act [76-2-4 to 76-2-9 NMSA 1978], shall be selected by the extension service of the New Mexico college of agriculture and mechanic arts [New Mexico state university] and a committee appointed by the boards of county commissioners of the respective counties from nominations made by the extension service of said college. The said county agents shall work under the direction of the extension service of said college and shall devote their entire time to the discharge of their duties under this act. It shall be their duty to demonstrate as far as possible the improved agricultural and home economics practices and systems of farming and homemaking, so far as the same may be applicable to local conditions, which have been developed by the investigations of the United States department of agriculture and the agricultural colleges and the experiment stations; to aid in the organization and direction of agricultural work and homemaking in the several counties; to cooperate with agricultural and home economics clubs and other associations and organizations having for their object the betterment of agriculture and home and rural
