Effective: December 29, 2023 Latest Legislation: Senate Bill 131 - 134th General Assembly (A) Notwithstanding any other provision of the Revised Code or any rule adopted by the state board of education to the contrary and except as provided in division (C) of this section, the state board shall issue an alternative resident educator license under division (C) of section 3319.26 of the Revised Code to each applicant who meets the following conditions: (1) Holds a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education; (2) Has successfully completed a teacher education program offered by one of the following entities: (a) The American Montessori society; (b) The association Montessori internationale; (c) An institution accredited by the Montessori accreditation council for teacher education. (3) Is employed in a school that operates a program that uses the Montessori method endorsed by the American Montessori society, the Montessori accreditation council for teacher education, or the association Montessori internationale as its primary method of instruction. (B) The holder of an alternative resident educator license issued under this section shall be subject to

(B) The holder of an alternative resident educator license issued under this section shall be subject to divisions (A), (B), (D), and (E) of section 3319.26 of the Revised Code and shall be granted a professional educator license upon successful completion of the requirements described in division (F) of section 3319.26 of the Revised Code. (C) The state board shall issue an alternative resident educator license under this section in accordance with Chapter 4796. of the Revised Code to an applicant if either of the following applies: (1) The applicant holds a license in another state. (2) The applicant has satisfactory work experience, a government certification, or a private certification as described in that chapter as an educator providing instruction in a Montessori-method school in a state that does not issue that license.
