Effective: April 7, 2023 Latest Legislation: House Bill 507 - 134th General Assembly (A) As used in this section, 'cider' means the unfermented juice, obtained by mechanically expressing the juice from sound, mature, non-citrus fruit, from which is removed excess pulp and seeds, other than embryonic seeds and small fragments of seeds that cannot be separated by good manufacturing practice. The cider may contain natural or artificial citric acid, preservatives authorized by rules adopted under section 3715.02 of the Revised Code, or a combination thereof. (B) For the manufacture of apple cider, a mechanical washing and scrubbing device shall be used to remove orchard soil and dirt from the fruit prior to crushing. This device shall be equipped with automatic scrubbing brushes and a means to add a sanitizer to the water used as the washing liquid. (C) A complete label that complies with rules adopted under section 3715.02 of the Revised Code shall be placed on each package of cider designed for sale to the ultimate consumer.
