Effective: November 1, 1977 Latest Legislation: House Bill 219 - 112th General Assembly The mayor of a municipal corporation organized under sections 705.71 to 705.86 of the Revised Code, shall be elected at a regular municipal election for a term of four years, and shall assume office on the first day of January next following his election. He shall appoint a director of public service, a director of public safety, and a treasurer. If the mayor is the mayor of a village, he shall also appoint a solicitor. If the mayor is the mayor of a city, he shall also appoint a director of law. The council may provide, by ordinance, for combining the offices and duties of the directors of public service and public safety. The mayor and the heads of the departments of the municipal corporation shall not hold any other federal, state, county, or municipal office, except that of notary public or member of the state militia, nor shall they be employees in any such office.
