As used in the Oklahoma Statutes: 1. 'Geology' means the science which is:a.the study of the earth and its origin and history, in general,b.the investigation, including collection of specimens, of the earth's constituent rocks, minerals, fossils, solids, fluids including surface and underground waters, gases, and other materials, from the center of its core to the outer limits of its atmosphere, andc.the application and utilization of this knowledge of the earth for the benefit of mankind; provided, the knowledge and principles of geology may also be applied to extraterrestrial bodies; and2. 'Geologist' means a person who:a.has earned a baccalaureate or higher degree in a geological science from an institution of higher education which is accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency, with a minimum of thirty (30) semester hours or forty-five (45) quarter hours of undergraduate or graduate work in a field of geology, orb.has a specific and continuous record of related and verifiable geological work experience for five (5) years prior to the effective date of this act. Publication in a geologic publication or prior qualification as an expert witness in an administrative erifiable geological work experience for five (5) years prior to the effective date of this act. Publication in a geologic publication or prior qualification as an expert witness in an administrative or judicial proceeding, hearing, or trial shall be prima facie verification of geological work experience.Added by Laws 1993, c. 226, § 1, emerg. eff.
