(1) The Superintendent of State Police may:\n(a) Maintain a criminal investigations division for the purpose of preventing, detecting and investigating criminal activity.\n(b) Enter into partnerships with local criminal justice agencies to provide expertise in the investigation and resolution of crimes and criminal activity.\n(2) For purposes of subsection (1) of this section, the superintendent may use the services of such members of the state police as detectives as the superintendent considers necessary.
