(1) A person who meets the requirements under subsection (3) of this section may request a school district to issue the person a high school diploma if the person resides within the boundaries of the school district or is a resident of this state and attended a high school of the school district.\n(2) A representative of a deceased person who meets the requirements under subsection (3) of this section may request a school district to issue a high school diploma on behalf of the deceased person if the deceased person resided within the boundaries of the school district at the time of death or was a resident of this state at the time of death and attended a high school of the school district.\n(3) Notwithstanding the requirements for a high school diploma established under ORS 329.451 and by the State Board of Education and school districts, a school district that receives a request under subsection (1) or (2) of this section shall issue a high school diploma to a person if the person:\n(a) Attended a high school before serving in the Armed Forces of the United States;\n(b) Was discharged or released under honorable conditions from the Armed Forces of the United States; and\n(c)

n:\n(a) Attended a high school before serving in the Armed Forces of the United States;\n(b) Was discharged or released under honorable conditions from the Armed Forces of the United States; and\n(c) Served in the Armed Forces of the United States as described in subsection (4) of this section.\n(4) The provisions of subsection (3) of this section apply to a person who:\n(a) Served in the Armed Forces of the United States at any time during:\n(A) World War I;\n(B) World War II;\n(C) The Korean Conflict; or\n(D) The Vietnam War;\n(b) Served in the Armed Forces of the United States and was physically present in:\n(A) Operation Urgent Fury (Grenada);\n(B) Operation Just Cause (Panama);\n(C) Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm (the Persian Gulf War);\n(D) Operation Restore Hope (Somalia);\n(E) Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan); or\n(F) Operation Iraqi Freedom (Iraq); or\n(c) Served in the Armed Forces of the United States in an area designated as a combat zone by the President of the United States.
